Creating a Culture of Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is a historical American dance with its roots in the Jazz era of the 1920's and 1930's. Developed alongside the swing music of the day in Harlem, NY, Lindy Hop enjoyed a few decades of popularity before falling into memory during the war years. Since the mid-1980's, however, the father of the Lindy Hop, Frankie Manning, was pulled out of "retirement" by Erin Stevens and Steven Mitchell and it has been gaining renewed popularity around the world. The Lindy Hop culture is one of energy and health and has brought me great joy since first being exposed to it in 2004.

Part of my mission of helping people adopt movement into their lives is to spread the joy of Lindy Hop to all and create a Lindy Hop Community right here in the Gem City of the Plains. I teach group lessons with my teaching partner, Abbie Patik, and organize a local community dance event, Swingin' Around Town, where we teach basic lessons and then dance and socialize once a month.
